This is a VCA module inspired by the Roland SH-5 monophonic synthesizer that was introduced in 1976, with dual audio inputs, two CV inputs to control the level and a stereo output.

The AMSynths design has the CA3080 OTA chip as the core of the VCA, with a modern AD8273 Class D Audio Line Driver in the final output stage. This SMD chip provides both final level and panning controls.

The AM8010 is designed as the final VCA in a modular system and should be directly connected to an audio interface or mixer. The output signals are therefore significantly lower in level than the typical 5 or 10V p-t-p audio signals within a modular system. At a level of 8 the amplitude of the output signals is +4dBu, with an input of 10V p-t-p.

The external modulation signals that are patched into MOD or ENV should have a range from 0 to +10V, to ensure maximum output level from the VCA.

The module has slide potentiometers with subtle amber LED lighting for VCA level (HOLD), modulation levels (MOD, ENV) and final volume (LEVEL). There are rotary pots for input signal mix and panning.
