The AM313 analog switch dates back to 1976 and the beginnings of a German synthesizer manufacturer, when they were a modular synthesizer company. The 313 is an advanced seqeuntial switch, more capable than the Moog 962, Roland or Emu Systems equaivalents. It has 4 channels/steps and the unique ability to skip and repeat the steps. The four channels are sequenced by an external clock signal or by pressing the shift button. The four signal inputs are mixed to the output when a channel is selected. Red LED's indicate which channel is active. Within any of the four channels the steps can programmed using a 6-way rotary switch which enables the step to be skipped, retained as one step, or the step can be repeated by 2, 3, 4 or 8 times befoe the channel is advanced. The step repeats are indpendent across all 4 channels. This featue enables the 8 steps from the AM314 sequencer (or a Moog 960) to be built into 16 or 24 steps, and with each row of 8 capable of being programmed in terms of #...

OVERVIEW The AM313 Sequential Switch dates back to 1976 and the beginnings of a German synthesizer manufacturer, when they were a modular synthesizer company. The 313 is an advanced sequential switch, more capable than the contemporary Moog, Roland or Emu Systems equaivalents.

The AMSynths design is a complete re-engineering of the original, replacing the 1970's CMOS logic with an ATtiny microcontroller, and the JFET transistors with wide ranging analog switches capable of switching audio as well as CV's. The new design improves reliability, adds new features and ensures the module can be easily manufactured.

The AM313 module is designed to pair with the AM314 Sequential Controller, with a six way interconnection cable removing the need to patch the AM314 outputs and clock to the AM313.

DESCRIPTION The module has 4 channels/steps and the unique ability to skip and repeat the steps. The four channels are sequenced by an external clock signal or by pressing the shift button. The four signal inputs are mixed to a single output when ever a channel is selected. Amber LED's within the channel switches indicate when a channel is active.

Within any of the four channels the number of steps can programmed using a 6-way rotary switch. A step can be skipped, retained as one single step, or the step can be repeated by 2, 3, 4 or 8 times before the channel is advanced. The step repeats are independent across all 4 channels.

A MODE slide switch selects between a normal (x1) or doubling (x2) of the steps, with  repeats at 4, 6, 8 or 16 times, to enable longer patterns to be created.

The AM313 can work with any analog sequencer but its primary use case is with the 8 steps from the AM314 sequencer. Where these steps can be built into 16 or 24 steps, and with each row of 8 capable of being programmed in terms of the # of repeats before going to the next row.

This is a fantastic live capability which enables sequences to be looped/repeated before going onto the next seqeunce and adjusted in real time.

CONNECTIONS & CONTROLS The AM313 has four 6-way rotary switches, for step programming, four channel select buttons and a SHIFT button. There are connections for;

  • 4 channel inputs (IN1 - IN4)
  • 4 channel set inputs (SET1 - SET4)
  • 4 channel trigger outputs (OUT1 - OUT4)
  • SHIFT input

The AM313 and AM314 are available with either Moog style or Sifam control knobs
